Aperol
Aperol is a classic Italian bitter apéritif, renowned for its vibrant, bright orange color and its unique bittersweet flavor. Created in Padua in 1919 by the Barbieri brothers, its secret recipe remains unchanged to this day, featuring a perfectly balanced blend of bitter and sweet oranges, rhubarb, gentian, cinchona, and a selection of other herbs and roots.
Tasting Notes:
- Aroma: A lively and zesty bouquet of orange peel, complemented by complex herbal scents and a subtle hint of vanilla.
- Palate: The taste is intensely orange with a pleasantly bittersweet and herbal profile. It’s lighter and less bitter than its sister spirit, Campari, making it exceptionally approachable.
- Finish: A velvety, rounded texture with a lingering, clean aftertaste of orange and herbs.
With a low alcohol content of 11% ABV, Aperol is designed to be a refreshing and light pre-dinner drink, or aperitivo. It is most famously used as the star ingredient in the universally popular Aperol Spritz cocktail, which combines Aperol with prosecco, a splash of soda, and a slice of orange. Aperol’s versatility, however, extends beyond the Spritz, making it a key component in a variety of other cocktails Its cheerful color and refreshing taste make it the perfect symbol of social gatherings and carefree moments.
